The Future Will Arrive

The author finds himself on a return flight from a conference in Mauritius. The plane is taking off in a dreadful storm and ascends at 5000ft intervals, eventually coming out of the storm at 30000ft. The pilot, through the PA system, apologizes for the bumpy ride and states that clear blue skies lie ahead. At that point the author jokes about the idea of having the pilot come out of the cockpit with a parachute strapped to his back, screaming for everyone not to panic as he is going for help. Through this parable we realize that we are the Captain of our life. The only thing we are certain of is that the future will arrive; our decisions will determine where we arrive. The chapter goes on to define criteria to make decisions and suggests that decision is the starting point to measure your criteria against. The chapter goes onto creating the link between the gauges and instrumentation of the cockpit to the various criteria in decision making.

The weather conditions were dreadful…. a combination of heavy winds and hammering rain
…..on board and began to move down the aisle… preparing for take-off….. tension was mounting at a steady pace….… airborne at approximately 10,000 feet the turbulence…shaken my confidence.

…watched the color drain from the cabin crews’ faces… urgent whispers…

At 15,000 feet……… exchanging horrified gasps…at 20,000 feet the panic in everyone’s voices……. beverage carts went hurtling down the aisle….. felt the dryness in my throat… 25,000 feet the desperation began to set in……our fate undecided…… literally threatening to break the wings off the plane!…silently communicating a prayer… Our prayers were answered.

Eventually at 30,000 feet the plane began to exit the storm… all around I could hear sighs of relief…..then a perfectly calm… confident voice came over the air and said, “Ladies and gentlemen…. captain speaking…..apologize for the bumpy take-off….. which was the result of heavy turbulence… will be met with clear blue skies…..estimated time of arrival is in six hours…”

…. calm and confidence neutralized our concerns….. demeanor reassured everyone of a safe flight……that I thought to myself…..what would have happened if the captain had come out of the cockpit….. sobbing, wearing a parachute saying, “Don’t panic, I’m going for help!”
……… that we are the captains of our lives………. act on each day is what determines a journey of success.

A decision is an impulse of change. ……Can change be measured? The answer is a resounding YES!….change can be measured…. means your decisions can be measured……the quality of your decision influences the extent of your change.….. acquires the art of navigating through dynamism….. accelerate the achievement process way beyond expectation.…be assured that the future will arrive.

The question is, where will you arrive?

It’s the definition of dynamics of intentions and then mobilizing the interest.
